With the development of science and technology, molybdenum and molybdenum alloys are more and more widely used. Molybdenum material has the advantages of high melting point, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, good bonding, high strength, good wear resistance, excellent corrosion resistance and long service life, and its cutting performance is getting worse. Therefore, processing molybdenum materials needs to find the best method. The molding of molybdenum parts is first powder pressing and then sintering, but the dimensional accuracy, structure and shape of most parts after sintering cannot meet the requirements, and they must be machined to shape. Therefore, aiming at the processing characteristics of molybdenum and molybdenum alloys, through repeated tests, we have basically mastered better cutting techniques.
1. The molybdenum products that can be used for machining mainly include the following types:
(1) Pure molybdenum materials with Mo>99.9% are mainly used for the production of molybdenum heads, molybdenum rods, molybdenum orifice plates, etc., and can also be made of molybdenum wire coating on the surface of steel to reduce wear;
(2) TZC alloy (Mo-0.5Ti-0.03Zr-0.15C), mainly used to make parts with high rigidity and high hardness. Such as bars, impeller shafts, grinding spindles, etc.:
(3) TZM alloy (Mo-0.6Ti-0.08Zr), which can be used as various high-temperature heating elements and structures, such as heat shields, molybdenum crucibles, molybdenum electrodes, etc.
2. Machining characteristics
Molybdenum has strong adhesion, and it is easy to bond with the cutting tool face before and after cutting, causing adhesive wear of the tool. Moreover, the molybdenum material has a high hardness and is a brittle material. It has a large tendency to harden during cutting, and the cutting force increases and the cutting temperature increases. When cutting molybdenum and molybdenum alloys, measures must be taken to solve the phenomenon of brittleness, viscosity and elastic modulus of adhesion, tool wear, cutting resistance, and easy chipping.
